THE WHITELEY

John-Paul recently worked as sole editor on the vision book for the forthcoming redevelopment of the whiteley by Mark. Hired by noe & Associates, he interviewed all the leading figures in the regeneration project of the iconic queensway landmark, and produced all the creative copywriting in this key element of communications. MASLOW’s MORTIMER HOUSE

John-Paul is Cultural Director of Maslow’s, Mortimer House. He created the brand’s tone of voice, the content magazine Maslow’s Notebook, and its web component. he also takes care of creative ambassadorships and the cultural events for the global brand at the flagship members club and workspace in Fitzrovia, London. PERONI NASTRO AZZURRO

John-Paul Worked as creative director on social film assets for the La Passegiata campaign for peroni nastro azzurro and also on the ooh billboard campaign in france in 2020. he concepted, scripted and creatively directed five short films for the brand, featuring leading cultural creatives in rome discussing their inspiration.

JOhn-Paul Worked under the auspices of A+ Agency as Both Creative Consultant and director on the latest campaign for Ron Santiago de Cuba, alongside natasja fourie, producing the key film asset for the brand, which can be viewed here.

LOST KINGDOM

LOST KINGDOM IS A 14-PAGE PROSE-POEM BY JOHN-PAUL PUBLISHED IN EXIT MAGAZINE IN THE USA IN 2019. THE PROJECT WAS A CALL-AND-RESPONSE TO VARIOUS IMAGES OF A IMPOVERISHED AND ROMANTICISED AMERICAN WASTELAND BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER JAMES GOODING.

FLAUNT MAGAZINE

John-Paul has worked as both European Editor and Senior Editor at Flaunt Magazine, forging its creative agency arm, and he continues to contribute cover features, various special projects and collaborations. “John-Paul is an editor and writer with a unique voice and keen eye for art direction and design who is an important player in the Flaunt universe” – Matthew Bedard


THE POEtrY MOVEMENt

John-Paul worked closely with Lord Saatchi and The Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation as creative director on the poetry movement project, commissioning three animated shorts by artists that radically visualised the poems of TS Eliot, Sylvia Plath and Phillip Larkin. “The Poetry Movement seeks to bring poetry to a new generation, by asking innovators from different disciplines to reinterpret classic works” – NOWNESS.


M&C SAATCHI

JOHN-PAUL was formerly editorial director of M&C Saatchi where he worked on the strategy and implementation of two KEY editorial and experiential projects for peroni nastro azzurro and topman, Creating The House of Peroni Magazine online and in print, and implementing the first content magazine for a retail store. In this role, he led a team of creatives and editors to produce articles, films and exhibitions.

TOPMAN GENERATION

As Editor-In-Chief as the first magazine for high street giant topman, John-Paul injected a subversive style culture aesthetic into the mainstream, including the likes of the chapman brothers and yoko ono in his editorial.

While Editorial Director at M&C Saatchi, John-Paul conceived and created the editorial arm of The House of Peroni, producing a number of magazines, short films and fashion shoots. and co-curating the experiential exhibitions in the physical houses.

John-Paul continues to contribute to AnOther as a writer and editor, interviewing iconic cultural figures, such as Nick Cave, Sylvie Guillem, Taryn Simon, Wim Wenders, Jan Svankmeyer, and many more. He also wrote the foreword to AnOther Art Book (Steidl), conducting the opening interview between Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Jefferson Hack. 


PORT MAGAZINE

john paul works as a contributing editor to port magazine, conducting interviews with artists, actors and musicians, such as Tahar Rahim, Gerald Scarfe, caleb Landr Jones, Carla Bruni, and more. Since September 2020 he has taken on the role of music editor.

DAZED& CONFUSED

John-Paul worked as Arts & Culture Editor when Dazed Digital launched, and secured interviews with the likes of Julian Opie, David Lynch, Ben Vautier, Antony Gormley, Michael Horovitz and many more. He also produced documentaries for the brand and regularly contributed print features to the magazine, which he also worked on as the sole Copy Editor.


LEADING CULTURE DESTINATIONS

John-Paul worked as Content Director of Leading Culture Destinations. He rebranded the website, hosted events, directed a number of filmed interviews, and created two magazines for the brand. He also co-curated the LCD Ambassador programme and LCD Awards with founder Florian Wupperfield. 


MAKING IT UP AS WE GO ALONG

John-Paul worked as associate editor on Making It Up As We Go Along, which documents the history and social impact of Dazed & Confused. He wrote the foreword to the book, and the ART and SOCIAL chapters of the book. He also interviewed figures such as Rankin, Nicola Formichetti, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Aimee Mullins, Barbara Kruger, and more for the Rizzoli.  publication.

JOHN-PAUL EXHIBITED THE WORK OF RENOWNED ARTIST ROBERT PRISEMAN AT THE DAZED GALLERY, PROGRAMMING A SHOW OF HIS SERIES OF PAINTINGS ‘NO HUMAN WAY TO KILL’ WHICH EXPLORE THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF CAPITAL PUNISHMENT EMPLOYED IN THE US. HE ALSO INTERVIEWED THE ARTIST AND WROTE AN ESSAY INCLUDED IN THE FRONTISPIECE OF THE BROCHURE. THE SHOW GARNERED INTERNATIONAL PRESS.

THE DAZED GALLERY

John-Paul programmed and curated over thirty exhibitions at the now decommissioned Dazed Gallery, showcasing everything from RCA undergraduates to award-winning artists in shows that veered from the political to the irreverent, with everything in-between. Highlights included No Human Way To Kill by Robert Priseman, the debut show of Matt Irwin, and the first ever public exhibtion of artwork by John Squire of The Stone Roses.

NORTHERN LIGHT

John-paul worked as Co-director and producer on the documentary northern lights which premiered on dazed, interviewing the creative community in iceland in response to the global economic crash in 2008. all of the interviews were conducted by john-paul and the film was co-directed and edited by michael oswald.
